Dr. Xie studies social stratification and social mobility. His recent research is on factors related to recruitment into scientific professions. He also conducts research on family demography in China and Taiwan, including intra-family transfers and determinants of mortality among the oldest old. Other research interests include statistical methods and demographic techniques. He teaches courses on methods and statistics.
