MCUAAAR Minority Supplement: Briggett Ford

a MiCDA Research Project Description

Investigators: James S. Jackson, Briggett C. Ford

Funding: National Institute on Aging

The Michigan Center For Urban African American Aging Research (MCUAAAR) is a collaborative effort by the University of Michigan and Wayne State University, working together with urban communities, to promote healthy lifestyles among older African American adults through research, education, and community empowerment. The overall objective of the Center is to foster high quality scholarly and empirical training, research, and interventions focused on health and health promotion among African American elders. This effort builds on the extensive administrative, training, and scientific research expertise of collaborators at the University of Michigan and Wayne State University involving multi-disciplinary units (Program for Research on Black Americans, Institute of Gerontology, Psychology, Sociology, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Social Work, and Urban, Labor and Metropolitan Affairs). The Michigan Center is one of six Resource Centers for Minority Aging (RCMAR) funded by The National Institute on Aging, National Institute of Nursing Research, and the Office of Research in Minority Health.

This is an application for an Administrative Research Supplement to the currently funded National Institute of Aging (NIA) project, “Michigan Center for Urban African American Aging Research (MCUAAAR)”. Dr. Briggett Ford, the proposed minority investigator, is a member of an under-represented minority group (African American), and a United States citizen. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Ford is eminently qualified for a Research Supplement for Minority Individuals Developing Independent Research Careers. The proposed minority supplement can provide Dr. Ford the opportunity to interact with individuals on the parent project, to contribute intellectually to the research, and to enhance his research skills and knowledge.
