Phase III of the University of Michigan Retirement Research Center (MRRC) focuses on Social Security retirement issues to benefit the public, policy, and research communities through three sets of activities:

(1) Research, evaluation, and data development. The MRRC will continue to plan, initiate, and maintain a research program of high caliber. Research sponsored by the MRRC will broadly cover retirement and Social Security program issues with a special emphasis on system reform and program solvency. As in the past, MRRC will continue to focus on the development of research data sources and facilitating the use of Social Security Administrative data for retirement research purposes under secure conditions.

(2) Dissemination. The MRRC will disseminate policy research findings using a variety of media to inform the academic community, policymakers, and the public.

(3) Training and education. The MRRC will offer a professional training program including graduate and postgraduate education; intramural exchanges; and formal instruction of policymakers that focuses on the issues of retirement policy. Training within the MRRC is primarily conducted within the research component through the involvement of students and junior scholars.
