While a positive relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and health has been well established, far less clear is how this relationship changes with aging. Using recent data from China’s 2005 Inter-census Survey, we study health differentials by SES and whether they converge, diverge, or remain stable at old ages in China. We found divergence in health differentials with age both by education and by income. Our finding suggests that, due to certain socio-political factors, the influence of SES on health in prime ages is rather limited in China.
