John A. Hartford Foundation Centers of Excellence in Geriatric Medicine and Geriatric Psychiatry Sustainability Fund

a MiCDA Research Project Description

Investigators: Raymond Yung

Funding (subcontract): John A. Hartford Foundation, 2015 (Award Letter)

As a John A. Hartford Foundation Center of Excellence in Geriatrics, The University of Michigan Geriatrics Center has supported the development of current and future academic leaders in geriatric medicine. The Center has built a superb infrastructure to support our faculty when taking their first steps towards an academic career that will for decades provide care which takes into account the needs and concerns of the senior population.
With a grant from the John A. Hartford Foundation, our vision to develop a sustainable fundraising model to continue this important training and development work is built around convening prospective funders, identified through such channels as clients, families, foundations, and associations focused on senior care research.
Funds granted will support a community gathering to showcase a team of junior faculty in the Geriatrics and Palliative Care Medicine center at University of Michigan. Built on a successful event model hosted by the U-M Diabetes Center, we envision driving past support by the John A. Hartford Foundation toward a model funded by many supporters with an interest in geriatric medicine.
