CVD Risk and Outcome Heterogeneity in Older Adults with Diabetes
Dr. Cigolle is a Co-Investigator on this grant and will lead the research effort at the University of Michigan (UM), the home of the Health and Retirement Study (HRS). Dr. Cigolle is an Assistant Professor in Family Medicine and Internal Medicine, a Research Assistant Professor in the Geriatrics Center/Institute of Gerontology, and a Research Scientist at the Ann Arbor VA Healthcare System (VAAAHS) Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC). Her research expertise includes individual chronic diseases such as diabetes, geriatric conditions such as cognitive impairment/dementia, and multimorbidity/comorbidity. Dr. Cigolle also has substantial expertise in applied statistical computing and secondary data analyses using the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) and other major epidemiological surveys. She has experience in the use of chronic disease variables, measures of cognitive performance, physical measures and biomarkers, prescription drug data, and Medicare administrative data. Dr. Cigolle will lead the on-site UM research work, including access to the HRS-linked Medicare administrative data (chronic disease diagnostic codes). She will serve as the liaison to HRS personnel at the Institute of Social Research. She will be involved in all aspects of this research including design, implementation, reporting, and write-up. Dr. Cigolle holds a joint appointment with the University of Michigan and VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System. Time on this project will be from the UM portion of her appointment. A memorandum of understanding between the UM and VA is on file.
