Advance Care Planning and Health Care Utilization in Aging Women
This sub-contact is to continue at Michigan the support for her role on this grant in which the Nurses' Health Study participant health service use is studied by linking to their Medicare claims data.
Dr. Bynum's work is focused on assessment of health system performance for the elderly largely using national U.S. Medicare, Medicaid administrative data and the Minimum Dataset for nursing homes. Dr. Bynum has successfully led interdisciplinary teams of analysts and investigators on multiple research initiatives and has deep knowledge of the clinical and policy issues regarding management of older adults and also of the data needed to study them. These areas of expertise make her well suited to lead this sub-contact in which the Nurses' Health Study participants are linked to their Medicare data. She will oversee day-to-day management of research activities for the analytic team based at Dartmouth related to using this novel dataset including securing appropriate data use agreements, and assembly of analytic data sets, which will require linkage across multiple data files. Dr. Bynum will also conceptualize analyses, interpret results and participate in publication of manuscripts with and without use of the Medicare-linked data. Dr. Bynum's effort is budgeted
